What are Total Access and Express Access?

With Total Access you can enjoy all the Gap Year Cashplus prepaid MasterCard benefits. Express Access is a more basic account that can only be used for shopping and up to £800 of cash withdrawals per year, until we’re able to unlock your account by verifying your details.

How can I tell which account I have and whether I need to updgrade?

We let you know which account you have by email and by letter when you received your Gap Year prepaid MasterCard®.

Alternatively, visit the Members’ Area and see if there’s an ‘Upgrade your account’ button... if there is, you currently have an Express Access account, so you should upgrade. Or just call us.

You can also tell if you have Total Access if you can top up your account using your bank account or you have your wages paid directly to your Gap Year Cashplus account.

What’s the difference between Total Access and Express Access?

It’s well worth upgrading your account to Total Access:

How do I unlock my account?

Please login at the Members’ Area, then select 'upgrade card' to see what you need to send to us.

What document(s) do I need to send?

Please check which documents we need from you by visiting the Members’ Area >>

If we just need to verify your identity, please provide:
  • ONE of the documents listed in the 'ID' column.
If we need to verify your identity and your address, please provide either:
  • TWO certified copies from the 'ID' column shown below, or
  • ONE certified document from the 'ID' column and ONE document from either the ‘Financial statements’ or ‘Other’ column

What's a certified copy?

This is a photocopy of your document with the words 'confirmed a true copy of the original' added, which has then been signed, stamped and addressed, with a contact phone number of a qualified person (please see below).

Who can certify my document?

Bank, building society and Post Office staff, teachers, police officers, accountants and solicitors are all qualified to certify your document.

Please note that we can’t guarantee that all of the above will certify the copy of your document, so please call before travelling to them. If you have any difficulties getting your copy certified, please contact us.

Where do I send my document(s)?

Please send your document(s) to the following very short address: FREEPOST Cashplus (this is the full address).

Please remember to enclose a quick covering letter that includes your Application Reference Number (this was confirmed to you by email after you applied). Then please check that you send original documents or certified copies as shown in the table under ‘What document(s) do I need to send’ for details.

Is there a charge for upgrading my account?

No, we don’t charge you a penny to upgrade your account, but you may be charged a fee by the company or person that signs your certified copies.

When will my Gap Year Cashplus prepaid MasterCard arrive after applying online?

You will normally receive your personalised Gap Year Cashplus card within 5 to 7 days after we receive payment for your card. We will send you a letter containing a bar code, once you have received this you will need to take this to any Post Office® branch in the UK where you can pay your fees by cash. Once you have paid your fees, and your account is fully upgraded, you should get your card within 7 to 10 days.

What is a bar code letter?

Following your application, we will send you a letter containing a unique bar code. We use this bar code to identify your application so that you can pay for your card. Once this initial payment has been received, you are on your way to getting your Gap Year Cashplus prepaid MasterCard.

What do I have to do once I receive my bar code letter?

Once you have received your bar code letter, you simply have to take it to your nearest UK Post Office® branch and pay your fees by cash.

How do I get a replacement bar code letter?

Simply click here and enter the application reference number you received in your confirmation email, and then follow the onscreen instructions. If you are unable to find your application reference number please contact our Customer Services team who will send you a new bar code letter and provide you with a reminder of your application reference number.

How do I get additional Gap Year Cashplus prepaid MasterCard’s* for my family or friends?

It's easy. You can request additional cards on your existing account for use by additional cardholders aged 13 and over for just £4.95 per additional card.* Just log onto the Member's Area and apply, call our Customer Services team on 0871 277 5599* or write to us at PO Box 466, Salford, M50 2XU.
